About the Project

Objectives / Highlights

1.

According to the Society for Ecological Restoration, development is insufficient without the incorporation of ecology and the promotion of sustainable development. Mixed-species plantings balance the nutrient content of the soil, boost the soil's nitrogen-fixing capacity, provide root exudates that benefit other plants, provide protection from pests and diseases, etc. Moreover, the provision of NTFPs is a major source of income for people of rural and tribal communities.

2.

In these regions, ornithologists and scholars have documented the presence of the Spot-billed Pelican, Pelecanus philippensis, and the Painted Stork, Mycteria leucocephala. Researchers predict that the number of Siberian migratory birds arriving at TNTBS to breed has declined during the previous 15 years.

3.

The region is prone to cyclones and other natural catastrophes, which harm not only the vegetation but also the local fauna

4.

After typhoon Phailin reached Srikakulam district in 2013, approximately 1,000 birds were killed
